This site also contains a freshwater marsh, hardwood swamp and lake shore. Tremendous bird population, including a variety of wading birds, waterfowl, ospreys and bald eagles. Alligators inhabit Lake Hancock and may observed from a distance.
This property was purchased in 2000 by the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Polk County’s Environmental Lands Program. It plays a key role in the preservation efforts of the Upper Peace River restoration.
